What are my options for lenses?

There are many eyeglass lens options available. Your eye care provider will take your lifestyle and vision correction needs into consideration when helping you select the right lenses for your eyes.

Here are some of the most common eyeglass lens types:

  • Transitions® Light Intelligent Lenses™ seamlessly adapt to changing light situations, darkening when outdoors and returning to clear when indoors. All Transitions® lenses protect your eyes from UV rays and help filter blue-violet light. Available in a range of colors and mirror finishes.
  • UV coated lenses – This UV coating blocks the sun’s harmful ultraviolet radiation, keeping it from your eyes and the delicate skin around them. UV protection on your glasses and sunglasses helps protect your eyes from the damage UV radiation can cause. Some plastic lenses come with 100% UVA and UVB protection built into the material.
  • Tinted and Polarized Sunglass lensesTinted lenses are permanently darkened lenses by the lens being “dipped” into a color bath until the desired color and darkness. Tinted lenses do not typically protect your eyes from harmful UV rays. Polarized sunglasses such as Xperio® polarized lenses, protect your eyes from UV rays and filter the blue-violet light. These lenses also provide enhanced contrast, better comfort, and clearer outdoor vision.
  • Scratch-resistant coating – A scratch-resistant coating can help protect eyeglass lenses from scratches on the surface of the lenses. It is a transparent coating that can be especially useful for children’s eyeglasses as well as those who are more prone to scratches.
  • Polycarbonate lenses Polycarbonate is a type of plastic lens material which is strong yet lighter in weight. They are designed to withstand impact, correct vision issues, and have a slightly thinner appearance than basic plastic lenses. These lenses are best paired with a scratch-resistant coating or an anti-reflective treatment for optimal wear.
  • High-Index (thinner) lensesHigh-Index lenses are lenses that allow people with strong prescriptions to wear glasses with thinner, less noticeable lenses. Technology has advanced to the point that these lenses can accommodate strong prescriptions and open up more options for frame selections that used to be very limited previously. We recommend 1.67 high-index lenses for people with prescriptions between +/-4.00 and +/-8.00, and 1.74 high-index lenses for people with prescriptions between +/-8.00 and higher.
  • Anti-Reflective treated lensesAnti-Reflective treated lenses provide the patient with clearer and sharper vision in all aspects of daily life – most especially improving the function of the lenses by helping reduce glare with night time driving situations.
